Carlene Fulton, 76, of Steubenville, OH passed away in her sleep in the early hours of November 12, 2019 at Catherine’s Care Facility in Steubenville, OH. She was born in Steubenville, OH on May 13, 1943 the youngest daughter of the late Bruce and Marie Odorizzi Fulton.
Carlene was a notable true to life drawing and sketch artist in early years. Her life was spent among her siblings all of whom preceded her in death. Her brother Walter Fulton and five sisters Helen Noble, Cora “Jeanne” Thompson, Alice Powell, Patricia Reynolds, and Charlotte Fulton will welcome their final sibling with great anticipation. She will forever be held in love and esteem by her surviving nieces and nephews.
Diagnosed as suffering from Schizophrenia during adulthood, new mental health treatments in the early 1960’s robbed Carlene of her fine motor control and ability to pursue artistic endeavors. She participated in various treatment options and medical trials throughout her adult life. Though these treatments were often found detrimental health wise, the information gathered from her participation has helped to improve the correct diagnosis of and successful treatment of over 3 million Americans currently living with Schizophrenia. Her personal sacrifice led to a greater understanding of brain chemistry and psychopharmacology allowing those presently struggling with mental illness to suffer less, have increased expectations and productive lives. Her contributions have already helped in the progress towards preventing and managing all stages of dementia.
For family and friends visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 am until time of services at 10:00 am at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 94 Mt. Calvary Lane, Steubenville.
