John R. Koniski Sr.

John R. Koniski Sr., 90, of Steubenville died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his home. He was born May 8, 1928 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Ignatz and Frances Chance Koniski. Also preceding him in death are his first wife Patricia Louise Secosky Koniski, one daughter, Karen Jean Fleming and three brothers and four sisters.

John was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel where he was a shipper and worked in the cold strip. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish. John was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School class of 1946. He was also a member of the PNA Lodge #652. John loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. One of his greatest joys was watching his children play sports.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. 

Surviving are his wife Rosemary Hafner Koniski, whom he married September 8, 1973; two sons John R. (Pamela) Koniski Jr. and Paul Andrew (Fiancé Tabetha Henderson) Koniski both of Steubenville; two daughters Sharon Jane (Missy) Wolfe of Ankenney, IA and Margaret Jean (Tom) Demko of Albany, OH; two brothers Thaddeus Koniski and Joseph Koniski both of Wintersville; two sisters Abeline Betti of Las Vegas and Sophie (Sonny) Pavel of Weirton; eight grandchildren, John (Kristin) Koniski, Patty (Ryan) Henderson, Duke (Regina) Dixson, Dan (Chrissy) Dixson, Dustin Dixson, Bud Faust, Emily Demko and nine great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Sunday at 7:45 pm.
