Robert "Mel" Franckhauser

Robert “Mel” D. Franckhauser, 76, of Wintersville, died Sunday, November 24, 2019, at his home after a long fight with cancer. He was born February 5, 1943, in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Harry and Agnes Kelly Franckhauser. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Harry “Sonny” Franckhauser, and his sister, Dorothy Abramowicz.  

Robert was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel where he worked as a rigger for many years. Robert was an avid Notre Dame and Catholic Central High School fan. He loved coaching his girls in softball. Robert also enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School class of 1961. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet Sarno Franckhauser, whom he married November 22, 1969; three daughters, Tiffany (Matt Hennings) Franckhauser, of Wintersville, Sara (Devon) Zimnox, of Pittsburgh, and Colleen Franckhauser of Steubenville; one brother, Richard (Mary Catherine) Franckhauser, of Steubenville and one sister, Nancy Givens of Richmond. 

Calling hours will be Friday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Friday at 6:45 pm.
