Sadly we announce the passing of our brother Samuel S. Fortunato, 72, of Steubenville, Friday, December 6, 2019 at Valley Hospice. He was born December 9, 1946, in Mingo Jct. He is the son of the late Samuel and Mary Cashioli Fortunato. Also preceding him in death are two sisters, Marianne Blanc and Shirley Fortunato; brother in law, Tony Senatore, and great niece, Athena Elizabeth Senatore.
Sam was retired from Indian Creek School District where he was an elementary school teacher for 35 years. He also worked for Kaufamann’s and Macy’s for 30 years. He was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Sam has been a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish for many years.
Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two sisters, Carmel “Dolly” Senatore and Judith Fortunato both of Steubenville; nephews, Craig (Allyson) Senatore, Art Blanc and Greg (Beth) Blanc; nieces, Ronna (Marty) Cernelich and Beth (Dave) Scott; great nieces and nephews, Corwin , Arya, Ethan Samuel Senatore; Ryan, Michael, Danielle Blanc; Kaitlyn and Brady Cernelich; Kara and David Scott; Berkley and Gregory Blanc; brother in law, Arthur Blanc and his loving dog Macy.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Sunday at 6:45 p.m.
