Ward Michael Rogers, 66, of Wintersville, OH went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2019 after his heroic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by friends and family at Heritage Valley Hospital in Sewickly, PA.
Ward is preceded in death by his mother Rose (DeLetis) Rogers and his father Charles “Red” Rogers.
Ward is survived by his loving wife Sherrie (Williams) Rogers of 15 years. He is also lovingly remembered by his son, Michael (Courtney) Rogers and his step-children, Melissa Dobbs, Helena (Rich) Muckle, Raymond Szypulski, Nicholette (Brad) Graham, Kara (Jamie) Gigliotti, and Derek Anderson, his grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, Zoe, Raegan and Myla, his brother, David (Anita) Rogers, his sisters Karen (Jack) Bova, Lynn (Silvio) Diliscia, Judy Doughty and Lisa (Ron) Kuster, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ward was born February 21, 1953 in West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Penn State University 1975 with a degree in business and industrial engineering and was immediately hired at Calgon Carbon in Robinson, PA. After ending his career there, Ward was honored to become the head coach for Franciscan University’s Women’s Soccer Team, then their Men’s Soccer Team.
Ward was very influential in the sport of soccer in the Ohio Valley as he was a founder for S.K.Y.S.L. in the 1970’s, a high school soccer coach, a referee for dozens of years, and a consultant for multiple teams.
Ward was a very active member at First Westminster Presbyterian Church. He loved working with the youth group, renovation projects, financial team and many other areas.
Ward was an avid golfer and very skilled carpenter.
Visitation will be held (at the church) on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 4:00PM-8:00PM and on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 11:00AM until time of services at 12:00PM at First Westminster Presbyterian Church 235 N 4th Street, Steubenville, OH. Pastor Jason Elliott will officiate and burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
