William B. (Bill) Ashbrook, 92 years young, died December 17, 2018, knowing his family loved him. He never knew a stranger. One of the warmest and friendliest people one could hope to meet, he was admired by every soul he touched. He was a patient father, a loving husband, a kind-hearted grandfather and adoring great-grandfather. He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on November 14, 1926 to Elizabeth Meyer Ashbrook and Encyl Ashbrook.
A graduate of Martins Ferry High School, he was an avid trombone player in the band and orchestra while in school. Bill worked for Standard Oil of Ohio (SOHIO) for 44years and retired in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Anne Ashbrook; his brother, Thomas Lee Ashbrook; and his first wife, Betty Ashbrook.
Mourning his loss is his wife, Anna Ashbrook and his children, Peg Alexis (Tom), Judy Bretz (Don) and Jan Ashbrook. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Chris Alexis (Andrea), Ryan Alexis (Meg), Eric Bretz and Sarah Ashbrook. His great-grandchildren are Tyler and Lakelyn Ashbrook-Burns, Jonah and Willa Alexis, and Ben Alexis. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed this Christmas and forevermore for his love of being with family.
Calling hours will be Thursday, December 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. His funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, Pastor Rick Dawson, will officiate the service. Burial will be at Union Cemetery.
