Gerald DiLoreto Obituary

Gerald “Yonk” DiLoreto 83 of Steubenville, died Friday May 28, 2021 at Valley Hospice. He was born September 28, 1937 in Steubenville.He is the son of late John (Yok) and Julia Puch DiLoreto. Yonk is survived by his sister, Eleanora DiLoreto of Steubenville and several cousins.

Yonk earned his Bachelor degree in Education from the College of Steubenville and his Masters Degree in Education from West Virginia University. Yonk’s years in education were from 1988 – 1993 Richmond Elementary – Principal, 1971 – 1988 Jefferson Union High School – Principal & Athletic Director,1966 – 1971 Knoxville Elementary – Principal.

Yonk served as Steubenville First Ward Councilman, President of Council, and then First Ward Councilman until his retirement in 2020. He served on all committees, including chair of the Finance Committee. Yonk also served as Steubenville Council’s representative to the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Yonk was active in many organizations: Columbus Club, Knights of St. Anthony – Vice President, Steubenville American Legion – Post 33, Steubenville Elks – Lodge 421,Century Club – Franciscan University of Steubenville,Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity, Gold Club – West Virginia University,Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity Steubenville Alumni Club – Secretary,Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, Jeffersonian Lodge, Franciscan University of Steubenville – Education Department Advisory Board, Former member and President of Holy Name Parish Council, All Saints School 250 Club, Former member of the Steubenville Umpires Association,(1963-1972),Member All Saints School Advisory Council, Polish Athletic Club, Franciscan University of Steubenville Barons Club,and Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church.

Yonk Served in U.S. Army Reserves from 1961-1963.

Calling Hours are Thursday 3:00-6:00pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. A Funeral Liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Nau, celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 5:45 pm Thursday.
