Irene Claire Rozsa, age 96 years, of Wintersville, Ohio, died November 27, 2022, at Trinity West. Born September 22, 1926 in Rayland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Sutak) Lapoczka. Irene is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gabriel Rozsa, in 2013, her daughter, Mary Louise Willey, and sister, JoAnn Summers.
She is survived by nine children: Irene Moore (Dale), Patricia Cornelius, Helen Grimm (Jerry), Gabriel Rozsa, Cathy Woods (Ed), James Rozsa (Beth), John Rozsa (Liz), Kevin Rozsa (Debbie), and Lisa Beagle (Ty). Also surviving is a special “son”, Jeb Brundage (Gina), niece Ann Marie Summers Greuey (Don), as well as 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since it was established in 1957, Irene was active in the Catholic Women’s Club, Christian Family Movement (CFM), the Hungarian-American Cultural Club, and the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District Ladies Auxiliary. An excellent cook, she was known especially for her cabbage rolls and nut rolls. She enjoyed playing Mrs. Santa with her late husband (Santa Claus), as well as dancing and league bowling with her husband over the years. Irene was dedicated to her family and faith, and was committed to providing a Catholic education for her children, all of whom graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
