James Fretwell Obituary

James “Jay” Fretwell 90 of Steubenville, went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2022. Born on February 17, 1932 in Rockville, AL. James grew up on his family farmland in his hometown of Rockville, Alabama.

Jay moved to Steubenville in 1947 where he started his working career. He met and married his only love, Vivian DiFilippo in 1951 and started his family while working several jobs. A man of many talents Jay worked as a pottery maker at Steubenville Pottery and joined the workforce of Weirton Steel, where he worked in the Sheet mill department, as a millwright, and retired after over 30 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed hunting and spent many years on the lanes as a avid bowler in the Weirton-Steubenville area. Jay also enjoyed cheering on his home state of Alabama in college football, our local Big Red Team as a Booster member, and his favorite NFL team the Cleveland Browns, for many years. Jay was a dedicated and honorable family man who raised two beautiful daughters and gave his all to his wife Vivian and their children. His valuable work ethic and values passed on to both his daughters Debbie (Joe) Grecco and Karen Graham (Jimmy) Antoniou, who are both retired professionals. He is survived by his wife Vivian, his daughters Debbie and Karen and his grandson David Graham, and many nieces and nephews, who will miss him and his wisdom each and every day. The family would like to thank Valley Hospice for the given to Jay.
