Jean Katherine VanKirk passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on July 8,2021
Jean was born at home near Brilliant Ohio on February 21, 1933. In her early years she loved to perform and play the piano. She was a 1950 graduate from Catholic Central High School and entered the Ohio Valley School of Nursing. After marrying the love of her life, Herbert Earl, and graduating in 1954 she began her long and prestigious career as a nurse. Her loves in life were Nursing and her Family.
Nursing was a passion for Jean. She always said, “Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life”. She was highly respected and, over the course of her career, worked as Nighttime Supervisor, Director of Nursing, and Interim Vice President at St. John Medical Center.
Jean is survived by her two children; Susan (Donald) Barbour and Douglass (Lori) VanKirk, 4 grandchildren; Shea and Brycen VanKirk; Amanda and Lorianne Barbour; 4 Great Grandchildren; Trenton, Harlee, Hayden, and Frankie. She was preceded in death by her Husband Herbert Earl VanKirk, parents William and Katherine Goll, her siblings William Goll, Evelyn Flynn, and Rosemary Clary; and her granddaughter Nicole Coleman.
Calling hours are Tuesday at the Mosti funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 3 pm until the time of services at 6pm Fr. Nick Ginnetti will officiate and burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later time.
