Karen Canestraro Obituary

Karen M. Canestraro, 68, of Wadsworth, OH, formerly of Steubenville, returned home surrounded by her family on January 20th, 2024. Karen was born on November 12th, 1955, in Steubenville. She is the daughter of the late Richard W. and Mary G. (Borsellino) Canestraro Sr. She is also preceded in death by her sister Jodi Ann Peacock.

She attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School, class of 1973. Her education continued receiving her RN degree at the Ohio Valley School of Nursing.

Karen leaves behind brothers Richard W Canestraro Jr., Joseph (Linda) Canestraro; Nieces and Nephews; Amber (Chris) Poirier, Ricky (Lacey) Canestraro, Bianca (John) Lester, JJ (Abby) Peacock, and Zoe Canestraro. Grand nieces and nephews Aiden, Isabella, and Daniel, Poirier, Gideon Peacock, Penny Canestraro and Layla Lester.

Just as important as her immediate family were her aunts, cousins and close friends. Karen enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and cherished getting to know to her great nieces and nephew.

She then began a long nursing career starting with St. John's Hospital spanning over 20 years in emergency, surgical and the Renal unit. That led her to her last 20 plus years starting with The Patriation skilled Nursing center in Strongsville, OH as a floor supervisor. She then finished her career as a Director of Nursing at the Aristocrat Berea, Berea, OH.

Karen was an avid sports fan. Her love included the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates Cleveland Cavaliers, and Indians. Her true love was following her little brother Joey's sports from his parochial school days all the way through his collegiate career at The Ohio State University. She Never missed a game!

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be held Friday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Matt Gossett will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
