Marie Kamarados

Marie Despina Frangakis Kamarados, 87, of Steubenville, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Wyngate Assisted Living in Weirton. Marie was born in Weirton, WV, on August 4, 1935, to the late John and Bertha Kolakis Frangakis.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Alex J. Kamarados, and her sister, Georgette Fekaris.  

Marie is survived by her children, Irene (Pat) Harrington of Carmel, IN, John A. (Connie) Kamarados of Weirton, Eurydice “Rikki” Kamarados, of Steubenville, and Nikolas A. (Stephanie) Kamarados of Follansbee, and five grandchildren, Nathan, Alexander Z., Nikolas Z., Maria, and George.  Additionally, she is survived by her brother, F. John (Joyce) Frangakis of Naples, FL.  Marie is also survived by several loving godchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Marie is a graduate of Weir High School, class of 1953.

Marie was very involved in the family business, Downtown Bakery in Steubenville, primarily as a bookkeeper, where she continued to work until 2015, when she retired.

Marie was a member of Holy Trinity, Steubenville, and All Saints, Weirton, Greek Orthodox Churches.  She was an avid singer from a young age and directed the choir of All Saints when she was a teenager.  She continued with her love of music by singing in the Chorale Society in Steubenville and being part of the Holy Trinity Church Choir.  She was a charter member of the Daughters of Penelope, Weirton, Pallas Athene Chapter 276, and member/past officer of the Chian Society Homer Chapter #4 of Steubenville/Weirton. Marie was a past member of Parish Council of Holy Trinity, member of the Philoptochos Society, and co-chaired the annual Greek Festival for several years.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 11, from 2-6 PM at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.  There will be a Trisagion service at 5:00 PM, followed by a Daughters service.

On Monday, December 12, there will be an additional viewing from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street, Weirton, WV.  Father Matthew Moore presiding.  Interment will be held at Union Cemetery.
