Melvin G. Gorsich, 84, of Steubenville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 18, 2022 under the care of Valley Hospice at Trinity Medical Center West. He was born on February 3, 1938 in Weirton, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Mary (Polovich) Gorsich. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Steubenville. He graduated from Weir High School in 1956. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958 where he became an excellent marksman. He worked at Weirton Steel and retired after 40 years of service.
Surviving Mel are his wife of almost 54 years, JoAnn Tripodi Gorsich, whom he married on September 14, 1968; daughter, Melissa Carapellotti and her fiancé, Brent Reitter of Follansbee, WV; daughter, Diane and her husband, CJ Spohn of Hilliard, OH; four precious grandchildren, Paul and Vince Carapellotti, and Ava and Alexa Spohn; brother, Marlin (Joyce) Gorsich; sister, Michalene Hare; and many nieces and nephews.
Mel loved his wife and family dearly. He was a hard worker. In his down time, he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, playing cards, reading, and watching sports. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in athletics as well as watching his granddaughters dance.
A memorial mass was held for the family on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Holy Family Church. His wishes were to be cremated.
