Walter Joseph Michalik

Walter Joseph Michalik (Merk), 95, of Steubenville passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Valley Hospice. He was born April 25, 1927 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Alex and Ida Olton Michalik. He is also preceded in death by his wife Nancy Lopatowicz Michalik; sister Laura Roszczyk and brother Stanley Michalik.

Walter worked at Federal Paper Board for 32 years and Koppers in Follansbee for 15 years. He was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Walter was passionate about gardening, fishing, his boat and helping others.

Surviving are five children Mary Catherine (Kaye) Cook, Mark Michalik, Jean Ann Lewis, Barbara “Babs” Cadile and John Michalik; six grandchildren Julianna, Shannan, Kristopher, Jessica, Michael and Marissa; six great grandchildren Trayc, Maddie, Mackenzie, Ellie, Noah, Andrew and his companion of 15 years Ruth Huffman.

Calling hours will be Monday from 9 am to 11 am at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Funeral liturgy with Mass will follow at 11:30 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
